Black Friday Tips: Getting the Best Deals

As Black Friday continues to evolve in the UK it seems that consumers are now congregating to online platforms for sales, in-fact 60% of customers are expected to purchase via a mobile phone this year.

We highlight the reasons it’s best to stay at home during this sale season and also the best ways to shop online for Black Friday in this shopper’s guide.

Tip 1: Write Down What You Want To Buy

Note down what you want and approximately how much you are willing to pay, before temptation gets the better of you on the day.

One thing that often happens when prices drastically drop is that we look to save but often buy more than we set out to purchase. This can be great because if a deal presents itself then who are we to say no? There’s some great value to capitalise on and this is the best time, but we still need a plan of action.

Write down a list of products that you hope to get your hands on by the end of the Black Friday weekend. With Christmas fast approaching you can start noting down presents for friends and family and other items that you hope to pick up, this way you have a set agenda and you can start unravelling hidden gems from these incredible sales.

Tip 2: Get Online Early

Keep an eye out for the products that you want and monitor whether prices drop, you could get more than you bargained for!

The awesome thing about Black Friday is that it pretty much starts on the previous Monday and ends the Monday after. You’ll be witness to many deals popping up throughout the week and prior to the official day you will get your hands on some desirable deals.

It’s worth surfing the popular sites such as Amazon, Tesco Direct, Appliance Direct, John Lewis, Debenhams, Currys and Argos from the start of November, as they will start to drop prices and you may even get a hint of what’s to come.

Tip 3: Use Your Mobile To Shop

When you get time, check your phone through the day and start bidding or securing your favourite items.

Over half of customers and potential customers will use their phone to peruse around the lavish items this year, but that’s something we can use to our advantage.

There’s a limited stock for most products and it’s first come, first served, that’s why it’s worth filling your boring commute at 7am with some potential treats and gadgets. Use your phone to surf your favourite websites and keep an eye on some of the best offers.

Tip 4: Follow Big Brands on Social Media

Follow Currys, Amazon and other brands online to get the latest on their products and Black Friday sales.

This isn’t something that you should do on the actual day but more of a tactic to enjoy in the build-up.

Follow the different retailers online and they may even reveal some of the potential sales that will be available. If you want to be the first to see a deal then you’ll need to follow the social outlets such as Facebook and Twitter.

Tip 5: Budget for Cyber Monday

If you don’t get what you want on the Friday then make sure you use all the above tips for Cyber Monday too!

Something that caught many people by shock in the UK during the early days, was the fact that Black Friday turned out to be a week-long. Deals slowly creep in during the week and some places will roll them out all weekend. But even if they don’t, you are certain to find Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals.

The Monday after Black Friday is another opportunity for online shoppers to take advantage of TV’s, Kindles, Tablets, Phones, Amazon Echo, Drones and appliances!

What is Black Friday?

First things first – what is this Friday everybody seems to be talking about and how is it different to any other day in the year? Well, despite Christmas rapidly approaching, the biggest sale is before that period. Black Friday originated in the US but it didn’t take it long to travel over the pond to sit as a fixture in the UK. Many retailers and customers have joined the fun with bigger price cuts and more sales than any other time of the year.

It’s similar to Boxing Day sales as it falls the day after Thanks Giving only it’s bigger and better!

When is it?

This year Black Friday falls on Friday November 29th, but you will often find sales on-going for the entire weekend. Be sure to check the duration of the sale you’re interested in, to avoid disappointment.

Where to Shop this Cyber Weekend?

There’s an abundance of desirable products and endless suppliers to get them from, but we’ve broken down the best sales to recap on some of the great finds from last year.

It’s got to be the leading merchant when it comes to sales. They really go to town on their deals and usually showcase them throughout the whole weekend. The peak of their reductions usually comes on the Black Friday and although we’ve got a little bit of time to wait until they reveal their sale products we can probably take a guess after last year’s extravaganza.

It was gadgets aplenty last year as they let Amazon Echos, Kindles and other Smart Gadgets go for less. The great news is that because they have loads of their own products, from smart speakers to Amazon Basics home equipment, they can really control what they sell and for how much.

This year we expect much of the same – televisions, consoles and cooking gadgets all up for grabs. The best of the offers will come on the Friday but it’s likely to last through all of November. If you’re trying to scope out a new games console or small kitchen appliance, then we’re predicting Amazon to be your best pick for these items.

John Lewis

John Lewis was a go-to place during last year’s sale with some great appliance and TV deals, as well as the usual makeup, clothing and gifts.

They are great at offering products with freebies too, such as a Netflix or Sky subscription with a TV or extra appliance insurance (which doesn’t sound jazzy but it is actually very practical). TV’s will be the product to watch at John Lewis this year and we’ve reviewed a range of their televisions, cookers and ovens all here – so take a look through their reviews for an idea of the quality they provide.

Their biggest strength is variety, you’ll have the choice of numerous products as they brandish cooking appliances, entertainment and handheld gadgets. We’re expecting a mixture of departments being thrown in the mix and their sale may be held on just the Friday and of course, Cyber Monday where you’ll be able to unearth gems online. Those seeking cheap kitchen appliances and great value televisions should keep their eye on the on-goings at John Lewis for Black Friday.

Currys make no secret of what they’re looking to provide customers with every year. They excel at both small and large appliance deals, and with heavy competition, they really push the boat out. Last year there were LG and Samsung 55-inch televisions up for grabs, coffee machines, top of the range Dyson vacuum cleaners and HP Laptops.

Each year their sales continuously grow in size and they even received five orders a second at the peak of last year’s offers. Subscribing to their emails and following on social media will allow you to get a sneak peek of what they’re bringing to the table and we expect vacuums, laptops and televisions again! Expect to see a whole weekend of sales, a Cyber Monday and a few other sales on the way.

Appliances Online (

Their full-circle range exhibits a number of products from every category imaginable. They have cookers, washing machines, TVs, dishwashers and other appliances all likely to be available this Black Friday.

You’ll be able to get your hands on 4K Ultra HD Samsung TVs, Russell Hobbs fridge and freezers plus much more. They will run their sales throughout Friday and are one of the big players when it comes to Cyber Monday.

Which Appliances Can I Get a Discount On?

You’ll be thrilled to discover an endless bundle of household products all available via the sales and appliances, technology and entertainment seem to be readily available during these times.

Fridge & Freezers

Finding an on-sale fridge and freezer would make for a very successful shopping hunt. You can get your hands on great brands such as Indesit, Beko and John Lewis.

You can take a look at different laundry products such as washing machines and tumble dryers. There are plenty of sale products with portable machines and well-known items too – you’ll be able to take advantage of numerous sales as we help you pick out the best of the best. The great thing about picking from our website is that we objectively review each product and also showcase different items from various stores and brands.

Cooking & Dishwashers

It’s not all about technology this Black Friday; you can also capture ovens, cookers, dishwashers and microwaves. Who’s bringing the heat to the kitchen at the back end of the year? There are so many fantastic items that can be picked up at less than half price and it’s just a case of keeping a close eye on proceedings, as we can’t yet distinguish which models will be up for sale.

Find built-in ovens, double ovens, microwaves and budget cookers on offer with Hoover, Zanussi, EcoSmart, Belling and more.

Small Appliances

There will be a bundle of endless small appliances for the home and as you may already know, the best gifts come in small packages and that certainly rings true here – with coffee machines, blenders, hair dryers and slow cookers.

All of these mentioned products are essentials that can provide so much to a household. These types of products are easy to overlook during sales and we forget about some of the fantastic finds, but you will definitely find some Black Friday appliances if you keep a look out.

It won’t surprise you that entertainment items are some of the most popular during this time. How many times have you heard about fights breaking out over 55” televisions and the latest consoles? We are advising all customers to shop from home for these. You won’t be disappointed with Amazon, John Lewis and Argos as they are sure to all boast some amazing weekend sales.
