If the style is absolutely paramount when you’re purchasing your new kettle and toaster set, then look no further than this bundle from Russell Hobbs.

Available in a few different colours, such as grey, red, black and cream, there won’t only be a shade to match the other hues in your kitchen, but the modern design and finish is also perfect if you’re after the brand new look.

It isn’t just a trendy set, though. From a practical point of view, the four toaster slots are wide to accommodate most bread types, and the kettle can boil a cup of water in under 45 seconds, making it 66% more economical than a lot of others on the market.

The toaster also has frozen, cancel and reheat settings, so you’re covered if you use your bread from frozen or if you forget about it and need it to be warmed again. There is also a handy Lift & Look feature, which allows you to peek at the browning progress without stopping the cycle.

The fact that it is simple isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes all you want is an appliance which does the job, without any fancy dials to adjust or switches to move.

The toaster has one simple dial which changes the level of brownness, and a light to let you know it is on. There’s no extra functions such as defrosting or pop and peek, but for those who simply use an ordinary loaf of bread, these won’t be needed anyway.

However, one function which may appeal is the bun tray which can be lifted above the slots. This will allow you to put the toaster on as normal but warm breads or bakery items without toasting them. It is also great for keeping toasted items warm.

The kettle has a removable filter which can be washed when needed, and it is nice and easy to lift the hinged lid with the press of the lever on the handle. Said lid locks when the kettle is boiling, so it can’t accidentally pop open. It is lightweight and cordless, with a swivel base for perfect positioning and safe lifting.

We would say it is best for anyone who either adored the mint green colour, or who wants something simple and fuss-free. There is nothing fancy about it, but when you’re just after a cup of coffee and some toast in the mornings, fanciness is not on the agenda.

Not only is this bundle almost half of the price of a lot of the others we have featured on this rundown, but it is also a really nice design if you’re one for copper accents.

And it doesn’t hold back on the colour – a broad splash either side of the toaster and the base of the kettle will ensure guests know you mean business. There is also a stainless steel body, so you have a very modern touch too.

The buttons on the toaster are easy to see and operate, and there is a cancel, reheat or defrost option. You also get six browning levels, so there will be the opportunity to get your toast exact. As for the kettle, the cup measurements will help you to only boil the water you need, it will hold 1.75L at once and there is a really comfortable handle for easy pouring.

Each individual item is also available in either cream or black, but you’ll have to purchase separately. The kettle is a little louder than others when boiling and the lid is on/off rather than hinged so can be hard to remove and fully replace.

One for those of you who like colour more than the usual black/steel looks. Available in titanium, pearl blue and champagne, this is a colourful and practical set which will make any kitchen pop.

The kettle contains a 3000W fast-boil element which allows for a quicker cuppa when you’re parched, and it will hold 1.7L of water at any one time. Ideal if you flick the kettle on and the whole household exclaims they’ll have one too.

The 1500W 4-slice toaster has six browning settings so there will be a precise one for whichever level you like on the browning scale. The slots are nice and wide too, so if you’re more of a sourdough or crumpet person than a standard bread, you won’t have to cram it in.

Colour-wise, the finish is silky rather than shiny, so not only does this mean it will look cleaner for longer, but it also makes it a bit bolder. We can imagine that the style of this set is a bit Marmite-y. You’ll either think it is one of the most brilliant designs and colours you’ve ever seen, or you’ll think there is no way you’d put it anywhere near your kitchen.

We are in the former group – and we know there will be some people out there who adore the look too. It won’t suit every kitchen, but if you’re going for a bright, slightly minimalistic look then we think it has fantastic potential.

It is inspired by Scandinavian furniture. The soft wooden textures and neutral colours of Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland come together really nicely, and the buttons and sliders are easy to use without getting in the way of the design.

Defrost/Reheat/Cancel functions on the toaster give you the basics you need, and there are six browning levels. The kettle pours really nicely, and the wooden handle is smooth so it is comfortable to hold.

We will say that despite the toaster being a normal size, it only toasts very small pieces of bread, so there’s a good chance you’d have to turn the slice around to brown each half. Not the end of the world, though.

It is also available in a set with the microwave if you want this to match, too. And the colour choice is pretty phenomenal, especially if you’re a fan of pastels. Cream is our favourite, but shop around for others too if you want something bolder than grey/cream.

It gives that perfect balance of modernity with a slightly retro feel thanks to the shape. Both items are also packed with features, from the toaster’s lift and peek function to the specially designed spout of the kettle to help with pouring.

One particular thing we loved about the toaster which we haven’t actually seen with a lot of other models is the variable width slots. On the right hand side, you have extra wide slots which are ideal for thicker cut bread, crumpets, muffins and bagels which usually get jammed otherwise. 

But on the left is ordinary width slots, so your ordinary Hovis loaf will still get the care and attention it needs without having too much room. Both sides have defrost, re-heat and mid-cycle cancel functions.

As for the kettle, it is 1.7L, and the side water window makes for an easy refill – you can ensure you never boil more or less than you need.

This bundle comes in grey, but if you’d prefer mint green or white, the individual items are available to buy separately.

We have reviewed the Dimensions set separately before and loved both products, but if you have your eye on the matching pair then this bundle could save you enough money to buy a few extra bits as well.

Available in black, white or cream, it is a collection for those who have a colour theme but want to keep things more on the basic side. It is also perfect for those who want to avoid a majority stainless steel finish and would rather have the colour.

The 1.5L kettle capacity can make six cups of water at any one time, which is ideal for an office or busy home. It has a 3kW boiling element, so you won’t be waiting for ages to get the job done either.

As for the toaster, there is a defrost option as well as a handy reheat function for those who forget about things when they get distracted. After all, you want the butter to melt on the toast, right?

The buttons are clear to read and press, and six heat settings will get the right level of brown which your heart and stomach desires.

As for the toaster, it is faultless. Does everything it should from toasting to perfection and accommodating various kinds of baked goods, and is simple to use with comfortable controls and clear navigation.

The only real niggle we can think of is that the water level window is behind the handle which can make it hard to see. But this does mean that the kettle has a clean design, so it all depends whether you’re happy with this.

Available in blue, green, rose or beige (the best retro pastel colours around), you have the full flexibility to match the set to everything from your other pots and pans, to your tea towels or even the paint/wallpaper.

There are also a few other small kitchen items available to match, from kitchen roll holders to electricals such as hand mixers and microwaves. And the chrome details on everything add a bit of a modern, bright twist.

It isn’t just all about the looks, though. It is one of the best sets for safety features, with the kettle having an auto shut-off feature when the water begins to boil as well as thermal cut-off.
