Best Nose Hair Trimmer – Buyer’s Guide

It is a well-known part of life that hair doesn’t just grow out of your head. Maybe you have reached a certain age, and it seems to be redistributing itself from your head to where it shouldn’t ideally be.

Some strands are more wanted than others, and we can take a pretty good guess and say that any coming out of your nose are probably ones you want to get rid of.

As luck has it, a lot of nasal hair trimmers also make great ear hair trimmers and can even touch up your eyebrows or facial hair if and when needed. Who doesn’t love a multi-use tool?

There’s quite a few out there to pick from, and a lot of things to look out for, so we have narrowed down the search.

Best Battery Nose Hair Trimmers

Panasonic ER430K Ear & Nose Trimmer with Vacuum Cleaning System

Quite possibly one of those products which you never really knew you needed but will ultimately change your life, this is a trimmer which will do what it says in the title and vacuum up all your trimmed hairs.

This results in an easy cleanup, so if your other half is constantly nagging because the bathroom is left in a bit of a mess when you’ve been in there or you simply find the clean-up laborious, it will do it all for you.

When in action, there is no pulling whatsoever, and it is quiet so won’t annoy you with prolonged use or when near your ears. It feels powerful and is washable under water.

If it isn’t properly assembled, it simply will not power on which increases the safety aspect.

Unfortunately, you do pay a little bit more for the addition of the vacuum, and there is no reason why it is an essential part of your grooming routine, but the fact that the cut hair goes nowhere except the little filter unit area is a factor which you can tell Panasonic put a lot of thought into. Plus, it isn’t the only addition for the extra price as the overall item feels a lot sturdier and performs incredibly well and reliably, cutting close to the skin.

It is quick to take apart and empty/clean and put together again – perhaps a minute in all. Cleaning can be done after every use, without any bother. Worth the extra money.

We like

  • Vacuuming
  • Powerful performance

We dislike

  • Slightly higher price than others in our rundown for the extra tech

Final Verdict

We say its a slightly higher price, but it isn't an extortionate jump to say you get a pretty nifty design and powerful performance. Just be aware it will need cleaning after every use - it isn't for the lazy ones out there.

Philips Series 3000 NT3160/10

Packed with all of the features you need from a nose hair trimmer, this Philips offering is one of the most popular on the market and with good reasoning.

First of all, it offers a great amount of precision. The tiltable head lets you direct the blades to where they need to be without holding the trimmer and your arm at awkward, uncomfortable angles, which makes it perfect for both your nose and ears.

There is also the option to take care of your eyebrows, which definitely requires a tilted head. Two eyebrow combs are included, a 3mm and a 5mm, so your exact look is achievable.

ProtecTube technology means the cutter is protected by an ultra-thin foil guard with rounded tips to prevent skin irritations and pulling, so if you’re worried that hair trimming is an uncomfortable experience, then you needn’t. The ultra-precise cutting slots mean that it is still superior at its job with no loss of sharpness.

It is 100% showerproof and can be used wet if this is your preferred method, and can easily be cleaned so you can pop it away ready for the next time you need it. A protective cap will keep the blade guarded, clean and your other items safe.

The carry pouch will keep everything together and is great if you’re going to be taking the trimmer on holiday or keep it with you at all times for those necessary touch-ups or want to store spare batteries.

If the Philips Series 3000 NT3160/10 has caught your eye, but you also have facial hair to manage, then the NT5171/15 may be the upgrade for you, although we don’t know if the extra price is worth just one further attachment.

Final Verdict

A fabulous price and everything you could possibly want from a dedicated node hair trimmer without going overboard.

BaByliss for Men 7051BU 3-in-1 Hygienic Trimmer

Thanks to the three interchangeable heads, this is a flexible trimmer which will take care of the majority of your facial hair.

The short and round head is for use in the nostrils so it can take hair from all angles. There is a longer razor attachment for ears, and then a wider blade for sideburns or moustache.

The price makes it one of the cheapest on our list, which is good for anyone who either wants to see what all the fuss is about or isn’t sure whether it is for them.

It is lightweight to hold and manoeuvre, although this also seems to make it a bit flimsy and we aren’t sure how long it would stay in one piece, especially if you take it with you everywhere or don’t really look after things very well. The cut wasn’t very close at all, so it is for someone who needs the odd touch-up every so often as opposed to someone who has a lot of hair to control a few times a week.

We’d have liked there to be a little storage bag or pouch included, which doesn’t just keep everything clean and dust-free but also in one place – great for anyone who is a bit messy.

Final Verdict

One of the most sleek and stylish on the market, but there are more advanced and easy to manoeuvre options out there. However, for the price, there is still a generous amount offered.

Panasonic ER-GN30 Nose, Ear and Facial Hair Trimmer

Designed to tackle hairs which are as short as 0.5mm, this is one of the most precise and sharp blades on the market without being too painful or uncomfortable to use.

The Dual-Edge rotary cutting system takes care of the hairs from all directions, yet the hypo-allergenic stainless steel blades leave just enough behind for natural filtering. This includes from the top of the blade, which is good for any fine detailing required such as facial hair or eyebrows.

To keep it clean, there is a unique Vortex Cleaning System. Simply immerse in water, and the device will pull some in from the sides, spin it through the unit and eject it through the top. This clears every hair, without removing the head.

It is stated that the battery will last for 90 minutes use in total, but many users state they haven’t changed the battery in months yet use it a few times a week so we’d say Panasonic is being harsh on themselves here. Replacing it when the time comes is easy.

It was relatively pain-free, but with some longer hairs, there was a slight tug which could bring a tear to your eye. It isn’t an issue which you’ll commonly encounter as you’ll probably keep on top of the trimming but worth a warming for the first use or two.

When in use, the trimmer head seemed to get a bit warm, but you’ll likely only use it for a few seconds at a time so won’t be unbearable. It can be used to take care of all facial hair but there are no attachments so approach with a steady hand only.

A strong addition to the list, but the lack of fittings has knocked it down a few places despite it still being flexible. Still, if you want a dedicated product, it is a great contender.

Remington Nose & Ear Electric Hygiene Hair Trimmer NE3850

Working quickly and almost silently, this is a fabulous little trimmer which will cover most of your delicate facial areas.

The trimmer is painless to use, working gently yet removing a generous amount of hair. The rotary system improves the amount of hair it can grab at any one time, reducing the time you spend in front of the bathroom mirror.

Nano-Silver, Antimicrobial materials coating the blade will keep germs and bacteria at bay, so it remains hygienic, and it can be washed under the tap as a bonus. The waterproof ability also makes it a great stylist for taking into the shower if needed.

Attachments are easy to transfer and swap, and you get one nose and ear trimmer and one dual-sided vertical trimmer as well as the two eyebrow attachment heads.

While performance matches our top-rated models, the overall ease of use is a bit less user-friendly. The on/off switch is at the base of the trimmer and doubles up as the battery compartment cover. You turn it one way to turn it on and the other to turn it off, and then turn a bit further to open the compartment.

Therefore, you need to take it away from the face to change the power or use your other hand. It is also quite sensitive – go a tiny bit too far, and the battery is out without you having wanted the battery to fall out. It makes us miss the usual single-handed button operation, but isn’t a factor which takes away from how well it performs.

Final Verdict

Usability is a bit of a dud that needs getting used to, but other than that it is a well-performing trimmer that gets the job done.

Veet Sensitive Precision Beauty Styler Expert

Of course, women can use any of the other nose trimmers on the list as they are by no means gender-specific, but if you’re after a multi-use beauty product then one which looks after beards may not be as handy as one which will manage underarms or upper lip, and eyebrow trimming may be very important to you.

The cutting blades don’t touch the skin, so there’s no chance of cuts or snags.

An adjustable head positioning will help you get more precise results, and there are various accessories included to help tackle any hair needed. The original fitting head has two different lengths of blade, there is a bikini head, and two eyebrow combs and two larger head combs for underarms or bikini area.

Unlike the others on the list, it isn’t primarily for your nose or ear hair in the sense that they can be inserted into these body parts with little concern, but for any little visible hair, careful external trimming is possible. It doesn’t offer a close shave so is safe, but may just be a bit uncomfortable.

An attractive pink zip case comes with the item for keeping everything in one place and safe if you’re taking on a weekend away, and even though it is a bit flimsy, it does the job.

If nose hair is the biggest concern, then it isn’t the most ideal, but for an all-rounder and any touch-ups, there are few which are safer and more adaptable out there. Plus, the price isn’t bad when considering what you get.

Specifications

  • Power: Battery
  • Blade: Stainless Steel
  • Wet/Dry: Both

We like

  • Several attachments
  • Zip case

We dislike

  • Attachments are very plasticky

Final Verdict

Not the best if your primary concern is nose trimming, but great for any touch-ups and a sensitive cut.

Best Rechargeable Nose Hair Trimmers

Schon Rechargeable Nose Hair Trimmer

A multi-use trimmer, which can deal with nose hair but also ears, eyebrows, stubble and sideburns.

While most don’t offer a completely clean trim and leave a slight bit of stubble behind (whether for safety or health reasons), this one seems to pretty much completely cut down hairs without being any different to hold or use.

It is one of the most stylish on the market, with a mix of stainless steel and black. We like the large cap which comes with it, best described as similar to the lid of a shaving foam tin or can of hairspray. This keeps the blade well protected when in storage from both damage and dust.

There is also a storage pouch, so you can keep everything together in one place and keep it safe when in a bag or suitcase.

It is also one of the few which is rechargeable, compared to being battery operated. The plug is a standard two-pin so it will fit shaver plugs and be suitable for taking to Europe on holiday, but there are also adaptors available if you want to charge it in an ordinary plug socket.

Even though we like this idea as it seems more reliable than batteries, compared to the actual battery-operated models, it did seem to drain the energy. The performance and power are high thanks to the high RPM which likely explains this, but just bear it in mind in case you feel that this doesn’t match your lifestyle.

Because it is so powerful, it can be a little painful when tugging the hairs out, but if clean, smooth skin is your aim, then it may be what you have to go through. Just beware not to go too far though, as you still need hairs in your ears and nose for health reasons.

Specifications

  • Power: Rechargeable
  • Blade: Stainless Steel
  • Wet/Dry: Both

We like

  • Clean trim
  • Powerful
  • Washable under tap

We dislike

  • Slightly painful to use

Wahl Rechargeable Nose and Ear Trimmer

With a detail head, rotary head and reciprocating head, this little trimmer can deal with your ears, nose, eyebrows, sideburns and detail work.

They’re all rinsable, so simple to keep clean and working at their maximum potential. The rotary head will capture and remove all unwanted nose and ear hair without causing an uncomfortable sensation, the detail head will allow you to keep on top of trimming your eyebrows or other detail work, and the reciprocating head is slightly wider for larger areas.

It is rechargeable, and a single charge will last approximately 2 hours which gives you plenty of time before you have to find a plug socket. This, combined with the compact size, makes it a great travel companion, especially as it charges fully in a short time.

There isn’t an overly close trim offered, but as seeing this isn’t recommended anyway, it is still suitable enough to work with. It is painless, and quiet when using.

No storage pouch is included for keeping all the little bits in one place, but all of the attachments are quite large, so it should be easy to keep an eye on them when not in use.

Specifications

  • Power: Rechargeable
  • Blade: Stainless Steel
  • Wet/Dry: Dry

We like

  • Recharges quickly
  • Different heads easy to remove and click in place

We dislike

  • No carry/storage pouch
  • Eyebrow comb is a bit too wide to make a massive difference

Final Verdict

Not the biggest name in the game but still a product which is up there with the best, and we liked the unique eyebrow comb

Best Manual Nose Hair Trimmers

Groom Mate Platinum XL Plus Nose and Ear Hair Trimmer

One of the more ‘classic’ looking hair trimmers, the Platinum XL Plus is gentle to use and looks like the perfect grooming companion.

A rotary blade system both keeps hairs short without causing pain. There is no recharging or batteries involved, as it is a completely manual operation. You hold the top half with one hand and then twist the base with the other to rotate the blades for the cutting action.

This takes it a little while to get used to, but once you do, you’ll wonder how you ever coped with an electrical device. It is smooth and pain-free while doing a very impressive job, making it perfectly engineered. Once you have mastered it, there are no comparisons to be made.

Made entirely from stainless steel, it is stylish and strong. We wouldn’t be surprised if it lasted a lifetime. It is smaller than you’d expect for a product of its type, but simply makes you realise that actually, a lot are just unnecessarily large.

We didn’t expect much from a trimmer which didn’t need electrical power, so were pleasantly surprised. It comes with a little leather pouch and a brush to keep it clean, which adds a classic touch.

The price is great for a product of its quality, and definitely for anyone out there who finds style and classic accessories is just as important as usability.

We like

A bit different, but strong in performance and a great little subtle device to carry about.

Tweezerman Facial Hair Scissors

If the thought of putting anything remotely electrical up your nose strikes fear into you (even though the trimmers are perfectly safe), then these little scissors could be the answer (even though they aren’t strictly an appliance).

Scissors offer more precision than trimmers, and the rounded ends are much safer than the pointy nail-scissor types. Yet, the blades are extra sharp so will cut where you need them to.

The large finger holes will help you hold them comfortably, and you will have added control. Plus, the stainless steel material is easy to clean and will last for years if you take good care of them.

There is no reason why you couldn’t also use them to trim beards, sideburns, moustaches and eyebrows, which is especially handy if you have developed your own unique style over the years.

You can’t use them for anything else, so don’t let family members borrow them for trimming their nails or cutting a label off their new pair of jeans as the sharpness will just disappear.

Scissors help you to cut visible hair only, which is good for hygiene reasons. They’re not as quick and easy as their electrical versions and require more dexterity and a steady hand, but for some, it will be a method which is much preferred.

Specifications

  • Power: Manual
  • Blade: Stainless Steel
  • Wet/Dry: Dry

We like

  • Comfortable to hold
  • Feel strong and well fitted
  • Sharp

We dislike

  • Quite small - a lot of practice needed

Final Verdict

Good if you want manual control and a more detailed process - you need good scissors for the job and these won't fail you.

Nose Hair Trimmer Buying Guide

It is worth mentioning first and foremost that nose hair trimmers are not designed to completely remove the hair in your nose or ears. Hair is there for a purpose, to save dust, dirt, toxins and bacteria from entering your lungs or ear canal and trap foreign objects. They are Mother Nature’s natural filtering method.

Never remove it all – just trim those which are coarser and visible to the eye.

Price

The cost of nose hair trimmers may surprise you. There are some available for under £10, and the maximum price sits somewhere between £20 and £30. This makes them perfectly accessible for even the most sensible of spenders.

Waterproof

If a trimmer can be used under water, it doesn’t just mean you can take it into the shower and deal with your nose and ear hair before you wash the hair on your head.

It also makes them easier to clean, as a rinse under the running water tap will see any trapped hairs removed and the blade cleaned more effectively than brushing it. If it is water-safe, it means it won’t get damaged from this.

Versatility

The majority of nose trimmers out there will also cope with ear hair, as they are pretty similar body parts to trim.

But would you also find a trimmer which deals with your beard shaping or trimming, neck hair or eyebrow grooming handy? Do you want one which you can transport and take away on holiday with you?

Manual, Battery Or Rechargeable?

This is really down to preference and lifestyle. The former requires two hands to operate, but they’re usually more reliable in the long term and more controllable. The latter two options are similar in performance, so it just depends which is easiest for you to keep on top of.

FAQs

Are Nose Hair Trimmers Easy To Use?

All models are different, so read the instruction manual first. Generally, they’re easy to get to grips with. However, there are some tips to follow:

  • Always use a mirror. This helps you see what you’re doing and prevents any accidents
  • Use good lighting. You want to be able to see the hairs that need trimming, so you don’t go a bit overboard or miss the most vital ones
  • Always clean your nose/ears first. They won’t be able to do their job if not

How Often Will I Need To Use My Nose Trimmer?

This depends on your individual situation, so there’s no set answer. Some people may need to use them once or twice per week, and some may need them once a month. Everyone’s hair grows at a different pace, but it’s best to grab them before they become visible.

Can I Use Tweezers Instead?

No! As we’ve mentioned, the hair is there for a reason. You’re not meant to remove it all, just cut it back if it is overly visible. Tweezers could also be painful, and as your nose is sensitive, this could be damaging or even draw blood.
